Down, Set, READ! / KES Family Reading Night/ Feb. 2nd 6-7:30
The evening will begin with author Buck Wilder and then continue with a choice of sessions for our KES families. Turn in your “ticket stub” at the end of the night to be entered for lots of fun prizes, including a Family 4 Pack for the Charleston Riverdogs!
Voting Booths will be here on Feb. 24th
KES students will have the opportunity to vote on authentic voting machines on February 24th for our South Carolina Book Award nominees. Each grade level has specific books to read in order to earn the privilege to cast their vote. Look for your child to come home Feb. 24th with an "I Voted" sticker!
Boxtops deadline on March 1st
Keep collecting your Boxtops for Education on products in your home. Our spring submission deadline is March 1st. We will still accept boxtops after that date to send with our fall submission. Students get prizes for every 5 they turn in. If you'd like more information on boxtops, visit www.btfe.com.
Frequent Visitor Cards in the Starbooks Cafe
We have added an additional incentive for our 3rd-5th graders in our popular Starbooks Cafe. This year, students will receive a "frequent visitor" card when they come to the cafe for the first time. Each subsequent visit, they will get the card punched and on their 5th visit they will get an additional snack and get the opportunity to use one of our Nook e-readers! On top of that, they get to download a book of their choice onto the Nook to read while in the cafe. Encourage your child to read and visit us in the cafe today!
Ready, Set, Read!
We've started an exciting new monthly contest in the media center where two different genres or authors will be competing each month to win the votes of the students. Any student who votes for the ultimate winner will receive a prize. Check out the bulletin board outside the media center for more details.
Opportunities for 2011-2012
Our amazing library volunteers enable us to provide many wonderful learning opportunities for our kids. If you're interested in volunteering in the library, there are opportunities to do many different things. Please contact Mrs. Nix if you would like to help us motivate our KES readers to higher levels in 2011-2012.
